After being invited to join many years ago and declining due to work commitments a close friend. who I was unaware of being a mason asked me to join.   I soon realised it was the best thing he could have done for me and I regret not having joined before.

The friendships I have made since are uplifting and great. The companionship is most enjoyable, and the things I have learnt about historical masonry is breath taking.

My grandfather and father were both masons and I was always intrigued to know more.   When I was old enough, they took part in my installation and their faces beamed with joy. I have been a mason now for over forty years. A work colleague in Scotland often talked about what he got out of masonry, and I joined his Lodge. When my job took me south, I joined Greenstede Lodge and was welcomed with open arms. Great move.

I am a Lewis Mason.  Both my grandfather and father were masons, but it was several years before I took the plunge!  I think it was mainly due to my father being a very committed and well-respected mason that I did not wish to encroach on his turf so to speak.  However, when my father was suffering from declining health, a very good friend of his asked me if I would consider joining.  It was the best present I could ever have given my father and a decision I have never regretted.  The principals of masonry are very sound and the benefits to both local and national charities are substantial.

When asked why I joined masonry it was simple, “Because my father advised me to do so”.
