A few of our Brethren
Greenstede Lodge in East Grinstead welcomes everyone who has a good heart.
For many people, Freemasonry is a welcoming and sociable organisation where like-minded people can come together, make new friends, and enjoy a shared interest in its long-standing traditions, values, and “ancient arts and mysteries”.
Greenstede Lodge offers an ideal place to begin or continue your Masonic journey. We are proud to have a friendly and supportive atmosphere, where new members are made to feel welcome from the very start. Alongside the East Grinstead Masonic Centre, we also enjoy a busy social calendar throughout the year, giving members and their families plenty of opportunities to meet, relax, and socialise.
These events include our annual BBQ, wine tasting evenings, regular networking get-togethers, garden parties, afternoon teas, and much more. They are a great way to get to know other members, build friendships, and become part of a wider community.
Freemasonry also provides Lodges and their members with the opportunity to build closer links with their local communities and to support charitable causes. It is perhaps less well known that, nationally, Freemasonry is one of the largest charitable donors in the country. Each year, Freemasons typically donate more than £50 million to charities and good causes, second only to The National Lottery.
Greenstede Lodge is proud to follow this tradition. Over the years, we have built strong relationships with many charities, volunteer groups, community organisations, and local stakeholders in East Grinstead and the surrounding area.
Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, including construction, policing, the fire service, railways, healthcare, hospitality, professional services, and commercial industries. This variety of experience helps make the Lodge a welcoming, interesting, and well-connected place to be.
Among our members are two former East Grinstead Town Mayors, who remain serving councillors, as well as senior members of the East Grinstead Lions, Rotary charity organisations, and East Grinstead Bowls Club. These connections have helped Greenstede Lodge develop strong local ties and support worthy causes wherever possible.
In recent years, Greenstede Lodge has supported a number of important charitable causes. One of the most significant was the raising of over £50,000 towards a new 3D printer for plastic surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital’s McIndoe Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit in East Grinstead. This was an incredible achievement and was made possible with the invaluable support of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Sussex Charity, which generously match-funded our contribution.
Other charities and good causes supported in recent years include Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, Riding for the Disabled, Young Epilepsy School in Lingfield, Bloomin’ Arts, Age UK East Grinstead, East Grinstead Tadpoles, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Step by Step, Being Neighbourly, and Dementia Research.
So, whether you are interested in learning more about Freemasonry, would like the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends, or simply want to become more involved in the local community, we would be delighted to hear from you.
